Motion Sensor 360 Range - Understanding Our Motion Sensor Form Factors

As we have motion sensors in a range of form factors available, we thought it best we created a blog that explains the various form factors, where each is intended to be installed, and the various technology/connectivity that is available with each form factor.

Currently we have 4 main form factors in our motion sensor range:

These are the forms that sensors in the Motion Sensor 360 range take, but not all technologies are available in all form factors. Each has been designed for very specific installation places and to solve a specific needs and we will look at each of the form factors in more detail below:

“Standard” Form Factor:

SKUs in Range:

M360-W-VOLF
M360-B-VOLF
M360-W-KNX
M360-B-KNX
M360-W-0-10v

Technologies Available:

Introduction

Our 'Standard' form factor. IP20 rating, metal springs for securing the device

Where can it be installed?

  • In hollow drywall ceilings

Where can it not be used?

  • Solid / brick walls

Installation guide

Drill a hole in the finished ceiling, fold the springs up, and push the device up into the opening.

M360-IP-B-VOLF

Technologies Available:

Introduction

Our IP67 rating isa slightly different form factor to ensure a waterproof unit.

Where can it be installed?

  • In hollow drywall ceilings

  • Silicon fixed into solid walls

  • In the Sensor Wall Mount Accessory

Installation guide

Drill a hole in the finished ceiling, fold the springs up, and push the device up into the opening. It can also be used in external locations directly into solid walls. Springs can be removed and the sensor is siliconed into wall aperture.

Plaster In Form Factor

SKUs in Range:

M360-PI-VOLF
M360-PI-KNX

Technologies Available:

Introduction

This truly impressive unit makes for a virtually invisible finished sensor, as it is plastered into the ceiling

Where can it be installed?

  • In hollow plasterboard ceilings / walls before plastering

  • It can optional be mounted on backbox in solid wall before plastering

Where can it not be used?

  • It is not suitable for outside use

Installation guide

A hole is drilled in the plasterboard and the plaster in mount is affixed.

The sensor mount is then plastered in, leaving a neat installation hole in the ceiling. Finally the technology insert is installed and the sensor install is complete.

Pinhole Form Factor

SKUs in Range:

M360-PH-W-VOLF
M360-PH-B-VOLF

Technologies Available:

Introduction:

Our most unique form factor designed for rear mounting in materials such as wood, stone, plastic panels etc.

Where can it be installed?

  • Behind wood / stone / plastic panels up to 5mm thick.

Where can it not be used?

  • In plasterboard ceilings

  • In plasterboard walls

  • In solid walls

Installation guide

The maximum panel thickness this can be installed in is 5mm.  Thicker materials can have a section of the back routed out to create a section that is thin enough for the sensor.

The sensor has double sided VHB tape fixed to the front disk, remove the adhesive cover and stick the disk to the back of the installation panel. Finally twist the disk to set the depth of the front of the sensor. Finally tighten the second ridged disk against the front self adhesive disk to tighten and lock the device in place.

As you can see, the various form factors available in our Motion Sensor 360 range cover many installation options and provide integrators with a hugely powerful range of options.
